The SI was a railroad with 141 miles of track running from basically Sandpoint, Idaho to Kingston, BC. The short line was created by Dan Corbin and the CP railroad. It's creation came about because of a lumber mill fight over transportation between Great Northern and the local mills. The SI ran from 1887-1958. The tracks are currently owned by Union Pacific. The SI dropped lumber transport prices by 11% which virtually drove GN out of the lumber transport business in northern Idaho. James Hill was not a popular fellow in Sandpoint.
