Rodolfo Lopez Negrete, COO of the Mexico Tourism Board, said international visitation to Mexico is on the rise from every country except the U.S., its "mother market," where it has fallen 6.5 percent.' Mexico received 1.07 million foreign visitors at its airports in December, 13 percent more than a year earlier and a record for the last month of the year, the Ministry of Tourism said. It was the 5th consecutive month of increased visitor numbers, the ministry, known as Sectur, said in a statement on January 26,2012. U.S. visitors increased by 11 percent from the previous December, according to the statement. So, Rodolfo Lopez Negrete, COO of the Mexico Tourism Board, blamed the drop on average tourism figures, to a fear about crime but it was also due to the troubled U.S. economy.... I found out in the news today that 6 million homeowners in USA are potentially facing foreclosure... Rodolfo Lopez-Negrete said recently "This is something we have to reverse," as he told invited travel agents and industry executives at the Apple Vacations Golden Apple function held in Sept 2011, near Chicago. "We are safe in the major destinations where you send your business." Tourism Officials focus on highlighting aspects of Mexico's tourism industry, including its 4,000 archeological sites, 37 World Heritage Sites, 14 AAA Five-Diamond hotels and 623,000 hotel rooms. Some show lesser-known vacation activities, such as diving with whale sharks and snorkeling in an underwater museum in Cancun. the tourism board says :"Mexico. The Place You Thought You Knew." For mexican people it means this year is a very specific year as it is the beginning of a new era. The energy is very much there as unique and as it was in the world at the time of the discovery of the Americas... as if a new world was to be. So the Tourism Board have plans to work off of the Mayans' purported date for the end of a world—Dec. 21, 2012. Calling it "The Countdown That Will Make History,". The Mexican Officials call it the "beginning of a new era," - rather than what some people call it, ie 'the end of the world'.
