Florence Beatrice "Cecile Clark" was a remarkable individual and beloved family member and friend. She died January 11, 2012 at the age of 91. This recording of her memorial service, and a scholarship for nontraditonal, returning students at Kirkwood Community College, Cedar Rapids Iowa have been established as a tribute to her. "Cecile" Clark, was born in Estherville, Iowa. She left Estherville, IA and moved to Detroit, MI in the 1940's. During WWII she was truly a "Rosie the Riveter," assembling wings for B-17 "Flying Fortress" fighter aircraft from 1942-45. Following the war, she managed her uncle's small business. Then moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1958, where she worked for Collins Radio as a lead inspector. Later, she worked for Head Start, then CRST Trucking. She also was an Amway distributor for many years. Never completely retired, Cecile volunteered with the NAACP. She also loved public speaking and until recently, was an active member of Marion Sunrise Toastmasters. She also enjoyed music--especially jazz, and spending time with dear friends and family. Cecile was a person of wit, intelligence, determination and conviction--and did things her way. She was also a self-motivated lifelong learner who believed that a person of any age or background has the ability to take classes and learn new skills. She set this example upon enrolling in the Evironmental Training Center Wastewater Inspector Program at Kirkwood Community College at 79 years old! She continued studies until failing health precluded finishing her degree, but never lost her zest for learning. Cecile was an inspiration to all. She is survived by a brother, Glenn, of Detroit, MI, and many cousins and dear friends. A private burial was held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
