Themis Velgis, Danila Pastrani and their three children moved to Vancouver from Mexico after falling in love with the area after a visit. In 2004, the couple opened up Chocoatl, a boutique chocolate shop in Yaletown that grew to be wildly successful -- until a business proposal by a shady customer cost them everything they had. "We never imagined people in Canada would be like that," Velgis said. The family is now lives at Woodward's and is working to rebuild. Velgis and Pastrani's profile is one of several by Andrea Woo and Mark Yuen of The Vancouver Sun, for the Gastown Project.
